One key focus during the winter period was training for our Blade Department, including Sky Climber certification. With numerous blade repair and inspection projects ahead, ensuring the highest safety and quality standards is non-negotiable.

Blade maintenance is a critical component of wind turbine reliability and long-term asset per-formance. Through hands-on training and certification, our technicians further strengthened their expertise in safe access, advanced repair techniques, and efficient execution. This direct-ly supports our ability to deliver professional wind turbine repair services across multiple tur-bine platforms and manufacturers.

The first step in the repowering journey was carefully dismantling the damaged turbine. This process required meticulous planning to ensure safety, minimize environmental risks, and maintain the integrity of reusable components.

Every main part was carefully removed. The team worked closely with safety and logistics partners, including  Peter ADAMS – Transpalux for transport coordination, SARENS for crane operations, and KOOI for site surveillance, ensuring that every action on-site was precise and secure.

This phase was not just about removing damaged parts—it was about preparing for a seamless transformation. By carefully assessing the condition of each component, MDWind laid the foundation for a repowering project that would maximize efficiency and minimize downtime.

Scandinavia’s climate posed unique challenges throughout the campaign. During winter, icy conditions demand specialized equipment and extra safety precautions. In spring and summer, long daylight hours accelerated work but introduced unpredictable weather patterns.

MDWind’s teams adapted by:

• Using heated tools and protective equipment during sub-zero temperatures.
• Adjusting schedules dynamically to accommodate weather windows.
• Prioritizing urgent turbine repairs while maintaining the overall campaign timeline.

These adaptations highlight the importance of experience and planning in wind turbine maintenance projects. With each season, the team learned, adjusted, and continued to deliver reliable service.

Beyond dismantling, the project also required a custom engineering solution: designing and installing a steel cover to protect the remaining section of the tower.

Leaving an open tower exposed to the elements can lead to corrosion and structural degradation. To prevent this, MDWind’s design team developed a tailored steel protection system fitted precisely to the tower’s dimensions.

The cover was fabricated, transported, and installed on-site, ensuring the structure remained sealed and stable. This proactive measure demonstrated MDWind’s holistic approach — anticipating challenges and delivering practical solutions that extend beyond standard dismantling work.
